Hurricane and Earthquake in Cuba

Last weekend, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southeastern Cuba, causing landslides and damage to power lines and homes. Aftershocks were felt as far north as Orlando, Florida, USA. The earthquake came on the heels of two hurricanes, Oscar and Rafael. The damage from both storms, along with an ongoing energy crisis and electrical grid unreliability, left millions without power, struggling to access essentials like clean water and food.

The Church of the Nazarene is active in Cuba, and these churches are intentional about caring for their neighbors when they need it most.

Lord, we pray for the people of Cuba who are suffering from the impact of disasters. When daily life is exceedingly hard, we pray for your Spirit to send comfort and strength to each one. Through your church, may people in need experience your compassionate love. Lord, hear our prayers.

Holistic Child Development in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, one child development center is impacting the local community in life-changing ways. In this community, poverty is a major concern. Often, children must drop out of school at a young age, using full-time work or early marriage as survival methods. Through this church-led program, awareness of the benefits of education is growing in the community. Essential services that address the needs of low-income families are relieving stress and encouraging higher rates of school attendance. These changes are leading to improved morale and overall well-being. The church provides Sunday school programs and a district-wide camp, helping children grow spiritually. The center provides nutritious food, hygiene supplies and education, medical care, academic support, recreational and sports activities, workshops for emotional resilience and trauma care, a self-help group for parents, and more. A total of 99% of students in the center have successfully passed their exams.

Lord, we thank you for the growth of the children in this child development center and for all the ways they are developing: spiritually, intellectually, physically, educationally, and socially. We thank you for each one and for your love for them. Give each student a desire to reach their full potential and each family relief from the struggles of poverty. May each child come to know your love. Lord, hear our prayers.

Health Care Ministries

Many obstacles can prevent someone from getting the medical care they need. Cost, location, stigma, and lack of resources can layer, compounding the barriers between a person who is sick and a health care professional. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with clinics, hospitals, and community-based healthcare programs around the world to overcome these barriers. Lives are being transformed through education, training, resources, and support for communities in need of both physical and spiritual healing.

We pray for people struggling to access health care. We pray that through health care ministries, those who are sick or in pain would come to experience the healing of Christ. Lord, hear our prayers.
